La cour de la Victoire, L’hôtel Carnavalet

La cour de la Victoire, L'hôtel Carnavalet

The courtyard of Victory owes its name to the lead statue created in 1807 by Simon Boizot (1743-1809) for the Châtelet fountain.  The statue represents a winged Victory with upraised arms holding laurel wreaths made of bronze.  The statue here is a copy of the original.

Side doors of St. Nicholas Church

Side doors of St. Nicholas Church

The exterior of the church is far more colour coordinated than the interior. I liked the intricate metal-work.

St. Nicholas Church

St. Nicholas Church

Gaudy doesn’t even begin to describe the trappings of this place. Aside from paying for entry the stone and gold work is worth seeing even if the mixture looks like stomach contents.

Beautiful Czech Easter eggs (kraslice)

Beautiful Czech Easter eggs (kraslice)

Across Charles bridge on the way up the hill there are many art and craft stores and galleries. Easter egg painting is a Czech tradition apparently and they hold annual competitions for the best egg.

Sighseeing with a twist of the neck

Sighseeing with a twist of the neck

Unless you wanted to spend your tour looking at the person opposite you walking might be a better option. This unusual transport has the tourists facing each other rather than the scenery.

Les Halles

Les Halles

The old central market and abattoirs of Paris were demolished in 1971 and moved to Rungis south of Paris. The hideous 70’s structure that replaced the market has aged badly and is in disrepair today. A renewal and improvement plan was formulated in 2004 and work on the project started in 2010.

Patience

Patience

The French have a special relationship with their dogs. Living in close quarters in Parisienne apartments, dogs rarely leave their person including visits to the bakers, grocers, restaurants and the office. Dogs are forbidden entry to butchers although a hook for leashes is provided outside. Occasionally a doggy trough can be found near to slake the thirst of a short legged friend in a busy street.
